Supervision & Support

Interns will receive regular supervision, mentorship, and feedback from experienced professionals in the mental health and criminal justice fields. Opportunities for reflective learning and professional development will be included.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

COUNTY ORGANIZATION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represents the Department and County to other County staff and members of the public.

  • Provides quality customer service to individuals needing directions or assistance.

Department: Mental Health Court

Starting hourly rate: $16.64

Duration: Summer (8 weeks)

Schedule: Part-time or Full-time (flexible based on academic level)

Minimum Education: High school senior, undergraduate student, law student or recent graduate

Qualifications

  • High school senior, undergraduate student, law student or recent graduate
  • Interest in mental health, counseling, social work, psychology, law or criminal justice
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to learn and engage with diverse populations
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, data entry)
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Coursework in psychology, sociology, law, criminal justice, or related field
  • Experience in volunteer work, peer support, or community service
  • Interest in working with justice-involved or underserved populations

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Assist with case management support, including organizing client files and documentation
  • Observe mental health court proceedings and staffing meetings
  • Support client engagement efforts (reminder calls, appointment coordination, resource linkage)
  • Conduct basic research on community mental health resources and services
  • Assist in developing educational materials or resource guides for participants
  • Shadow professionals such as case managers, probation officers, and clinicians
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with HIPAA guidelines
  • Participate in team meetings and case staffing discussions (as appropriate)
