Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Daily Duties:


Language Skills:
Incumbent must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Incumbent must possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:
Incumbent must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.



Reasoning Ability:
Incumbent must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Incumbent must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The incumbent frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb or balance. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.


Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Department: Bi-County

Pay Grade: 55, Non-Exempt

Starting hourly rate: $17.30

Minimum Experience: High school diploma (or GED) required with some customer service or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications, Licenses:

  • Must have dependable transportation.

  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all– inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Oversees the operation of the convenience center on assigned shift to provide assistance to the public in the disposal of discarded materials, waste and recyclables.
    Provides directions and assists the public in adhering to guidelines of waste disposal at the center.
  • Provides instruction to the public on recycling and ensures that recyclables are separated as required. Separates glass articles as required and removes any articles that should not be in recyclable bins.
  • Communicates with base station via 2-way radio as needed, reporting estimated volume in containers periodically.
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records concerning traffic and use of the convenience center.
    Keeps the convenience center area clean, neat and free of debris and litter.
  • Maintains all equipment including cleaning oil container strainers.
  • Assists customers with unloading, as needed.
  • May fill potholes in the parking lot as needed.
  • Operates a hydraulic compactor, as needed, maintaining safety requirements for such operation.
  • Utilizes a variety of safety equipment including visors, fire extinguisher, reflector vest, gloves and goggles in performance of various tasks.
