Purpose:
Reporting to the Process Strategy & Technology Manager, this role is the bridge between raw metallurgical data and operational excellence. The position directly influences the sustainability and profitability of the site by optimizing production processes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provides technical support to plant production departments as directed by the Process Strategy & Technology Manager.
- Owns site process KPIs and proactively implements corrective actions to increase on-line time and efficiency of site processes.
- Conducts the appropriate pre-task risk assessments and intervenes with co-workers as necessary to ensure safety in the workplace.
- Maintains and monitors departmental SPC charts and dashboards.
- Continually analyzes plant capacity and proactively addresses potential bottlenecks.
- Develops and implements corrective actions and process improvements to maintain a continuous improvement culture.
- Develops and contributes to the implementation of capital projects.
- Prepares and leads daily and monthly process reviews to drive continual process improvement.
- Identifies and investigates process and production variances and ensures corrective and preventive actions are sustainably implemented to prevent recurrence.
- Develops and maintains accurate mass and energy balances for key unit operations.
- Audits and validates metallurgical accounting data to ensure accuracy of metal recovery calculations and inventory tracking.
- Optimizes use of reagents and consumables and energy intensity to reduce unit operating costs.
- Provides technical oversight and periodic review of SOPs to ensure they reflect current best practices and safety requirements.
- Provides technical training to operations personnel to enhance the site’s collective understanding of metallurgical principles.
- Contributes to the provision of a safe, environmentally friendly, healthy and quality-driven workplace by ensuring that all technical and/or operational plans, procedures or process changes are incorporated in the requirement of all CHESS policies and practices.
- Supports site safety initiatives.
- Supports policies and procedures, through commitment, leadership, development, planning, promotion, active involvement and evaluation, to ensure continual improvement.
- Performs work in accordance with all relevant CHESS procedures at all times.
- Identifies potential dangers that pose a hazard for self, others or the environment and takes action to eliminate these hazards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar technical/support role.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong working ability with MS Office.
- Exposure to metallurgical processes is desired.
- Highly demonstrated ability in conceptual and practical planning skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Experience in SAP, METSIM or Aspen, PI and/or Power BI.
- Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen.
- Works accurately with keen attention to detail.
- Responds quickly to ad hoc changes in the supply chain in order to prevent production losses.
- Resists stress, adapts easily to optimize change management.
- Maintains contacts with internal and external customers.
- Possesses creative and effective organizational and improvisational skills.
- Works as needed in an outdoor and industrial environment while wearing required PPE.
- Participates in a collaborative, shared responsibility for after-hours technical support coverage.
