Position Summary

Responsible for the supervision of Quality Assurance Technicians (QA) to include technical activities of the laboratory area(s) (in lab & in plant) and incoming and in process material samples, final testing and inspection of finished products.

Core Functions and Duties

  • Oversee and monitor daily job performance of QA Technicians. Train Technicians on testing procedures, processes, SOP’s, GMP’s. Ensure QA activities comply with the organization’s policies and procedures and all regulatory agency standards.
  • Assist and provide input in the development and modification of departmental goals, processes and procedures. Participates in the development of new technical procedures and ensures QA maintains current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures and equipment operations.
  • Validate all lab data daily to include verification and validation, in writing.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews of QA Technicians.
  • Create new QA forms and/or update exiting forms, as needed. Create production packaging specification sheets and update exiting specifications (i.e. raw material and packaging).
  • Practice and convey quality standards to all departments throughout the Plant. Communicate and coordinate with internal, external customers and suppliers regarding any QA related quality issues.
  • Respond in writing to line related consumer complaints. Interacts with all departments to determine and resolve quality related problems.
  • Investigates and performs root cause analysis for continuous improvements both in department and in the plant.
  • Order necessary supplies for the lab and processing areas to maintain on going QA lab and line testing.
  • Monitor line and QA Technician calibration of equipment. Recommend changes in standards and test equipment to facilitate efficiencies and to maintain product quality. Send out equipment for annual calibration.
  • Participates in all audits and represents the QA Department.
  • Help monitors and maintains corrective action system.
  • Checks and reviews daily production schedule for customer samples and reporting. Packs and sends product samples to customers as required.
  • Monitors weekly pest control service receipts.
  • Reports and supervises microbiological testing program to include line swabs, finished product samples and ingredients. Manages environmental program.
  • Plant SQF Practitioner, PCQI, member of the HACCP/food safety team.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

1. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or food related field

2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in food industry in Quality Assurance

3. Knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

4. Knowledge: basic mathematics-addition, subtraction, multiplication, division

5. English Language (Speaking/Listening/Writing)

6. Skills: Communication skills verbal and written, reading comprehension, active listening, problem solving, coordination, service orientation, multitasking, team player, strong leadership qualities, independent, detail oriented
