Construction Project Manager


Position Summary

The Construction Project Manager is responsible for both the successful estimating and execution of industrial construction projects from initial bid through project closeout. This position develops competitive cost estimates, prepares proposals, manages project budgets and schedules, coordinates field operations, and maintains strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge of industrial construction, excellent organizational skills, financial acumen, and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining safety, quality, profitability, and customer satisfaction.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Estimating & Pre-Construction

  • Review bid invitations, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
  • Develop complete labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Prepare project budgets and bid proposals.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits.
  • Participate in bid review meetings with executive leadership.
  • Prepare clarifications, exclusions, and assumptions for proposals.
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
  • Assist in value engineering opportunities.
  • Participate in contract negotiations.

Project Management

  • Manage projects from award through final completion.
  • Develop project execution plans.
  • Establish project schedules and milestones.
  • Coordinate fabrication, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings.
  • Monitor project budgets and cost performance.
  • Forecast project financial performance.
  • Approve purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
  • Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor productivity and labor performance.
  • Conduct project progress meetings.
  • Review field reports and daily production.
  • Manage project documentation and correspondence.
  • Oversee project closeout activities.

Financial Management

  • Develop project budgets.
  • Monitor committed costs versus actual costs.
  • Review project cost reports.
  • Manage change orders.
  • Prepare monthly project forecasts.
  • Approve vendor invoices.
  • Review subcontractor pay applications.
  • Manage customer billing.
  • Track project profitability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities.

Client Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers.
  • Maintain excellent customer relationships.
  • Attend owner meetings.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly.
  • Coordinate project communications.
  • Pursue additional work opportunities with existing customers.

Field Operations Support

  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Foremen.
  • Support manpower planning.
  • Resolve field issues.
  • Monitor construction progress.
  • Ensure project schedule compliance.
  • Assist with problem-solving in the field.

Safety

  • Promote a safety-first culture.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings.
  • Review incident investigations.
  • Support corrective actions.
  • Verify subcontractor safety compliance.

Quality Control

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections.
  • Review quality documentation.
  • Support punch list completion.
  • Ensure customer acceptance requirements are met.

Contract Administration

  • Review contracts and purchase orders.
  • Interpret contract requirements.
  • Manage subcontract agreements.
  • Track contractual obligations.
  • Document project changes.
  • Maintain complete project files.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise:

  • Project Engineers
  • Assistant Project Managers
  • Project Coordinators
  • Administrative Support Staff
    Provides project direction to:
  • Superintendents
  • Foremen
  • Field Crews


Desired Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Construction Management
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Technology
    Equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of industrial construction experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years estimating experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years project management experience.
  • Experience managing projects exceeding $1 million preferred.
  • Fabrication experience preferred.
