Job Purpose: Oversees, plans, develops, organizes clinical services and activities.
Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)
- Responsible for primary training, orientation and performance evaluations of clinical staff.
- Provide daily assignment schedules and lead pod huddles.
- Primary contact for staff callouts and determining needs for assigned pod staff.
- Oversees staff retraining, corrective training, and pod trainer supervision.
- Approves all timekeeping punches, ensuring accurate entry and application of time and department codes.
- Collaborate with pod trainers to communicate clinical floor needs and staff availability, facilitating assistance in other areas as required.
- Reviews and determines department supply needs and updates inventory, including ordering clinical supplies and immunizations.
- Serves as the first line of authority and advice for questions, troubleshooting and workflow issues.
- Responsible for troubleshooting any equipment malfunctions that may need repair or replacement.
- Oversees candidate interviews, resume evaluations, and hiring decisions.
- Responsible for coaching and counseling of assigned clinical employees.
- Responsible for staying up to date with current training policies and procedures.
- Recommends, implements, and reviews annually, clinical departmental policies and procedures. Updates staff on changes.
- Attends required meetings, in-services, and participates in committee work as requested.
- Coordinates the general and technical supervision of departmental personnel in accordance with clinical, governmental and other regulatory standards (i.e. CLIA and OSHA).
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Resolves customer service issues related to clinical care for the department.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited medical assisting or nursing program.
Experience: Two years of professional clinical experience including one year of supervisory level experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train staff.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.
- Skill in identifying problems and researching recommended solutions.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records, written reports and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to supervise the members of a health care team.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical Assisting Degree or Diploma from accredited Allied Health Professional Education Institution or valid Nursing License in the state of TN, if applicable. CPR certification.
Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
