Description

Job Purpose: Under direct supervision, the technologist takes images of the body by operating stationary and portable x-ray equipment according to developmental factors and age specifics.

Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)

1. Complete patient education regarding the procedure

2. Promote privacy and monitor patient’s well-being during exams; recognize patient discomfort or medical probles and take appropriate actions.

3. Performs radiologic procedures as ordered. Uses lead markers on all exams

4. Prepares and assists the Radiologist in the completion of radiologic examinations

5. Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays, adjusts equipment and determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time. Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient body.

6. Provide proper radiation protection for patients and staff.

7. Evaluate x-ray images for technical quality and label appropriately.

8. Schedule patients for procedures; assist clerical functions as needed.

9. Transports patients within the facility as well as to and from the waiting area as required.

10. Prepares and maintains radiologic records, files and technical worksheets

11. Complete appropriate documentation related to the study

12. Perform quality control functions related to radiological studies

13. Follow infection control and safety guidelines

14. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications: (Describe minimum qualifications, preferred or required)

Education: Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology

Experience: One year full time experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate an understanding of human cross-section anatomy, pharmacology, physiology and medical terminology. Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. Uses professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid AART Registration and Tennessee Medical X-ray Operator License. CPR certification

Working Conditions: (list any environmental aspects of the position that have an impact on the performance of the job)

Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. May be required to help lift/transfer patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
