Job Purpose: Responsible for general interior and exterior cleanliness and appearance of clinic.

Essential Functions: Duties include but not limited to the following (Examples of Duties)

  1. Performs routine cleaning of campus in order to provide a sanitary, clean and neat environment for employees, patients, and visitors.
  2. Maintains all common areas, including restrooms, and exterior trash receptacles.
  3. Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.

  4. Uses and maintains equipment properly.

  5. Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques, Standard Precautions and isolation precautions.

  6. Works day, evening or night shifts as assigned.

  7. Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.

  8. Observes safety precautions at all times.

  9. Sets up and prepares meeting rooms as needed.

  10. Changes light bulbs and replaces ceiling tile as needed using stepladder.

  11. Refills paper, soap and hand sanitizer dispensers as needed.

  12. Clean and wipe down glass in common areas.

  13. Spot clean walls to remove stains or prints.

  14. Ensures exterior sidewalks, grounds and parking area are clean and free from debris.

  15. During inclement weather, assists with outside maintenance such as shoveling and spreading ice melt.

  16. Responds to calls for assistance as needed.

  17. Notify Facility Supervisor of needed repairs.

  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

  19. Maintains strictest confidentiality.


Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: One year of janitorial experience in healthcare preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good customer service skills

  • Being punctual, reliable and trustworthy

  • Organizational skills

  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of building janitorial and maintenance concepts

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment

  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions

  • Ability to follow instructions both oral and written

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff

  • Ability to communicate clearly

Licenses/Certifications: None

Typical Physical Demands: Prolonged walking or standing, repeated stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching arms above head, stretching and climbing. Requires hand-eye coordination in utilizing equipment and tools. Must be able to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying object weighing up to 15 pounds. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor climate of average daily seasonal temperatures. Outside work is subject to varying seasonal temperature. Employee may be exposed to odors, chemicals, spills, dust etc. Occasional irregular work hours. Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
