JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Workplace Health Medical Assistant

Job Purpose: Preforms a variety of patient care activities to assist providers and nurses.

Essential Functions:

  1. Greets and escorts patients to exam room using appropriate procedures and in a timely fashion.
  2. Takes vital signs and assists triage patients in patient flow through the office.
  3. Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing. Stocks supplies. Sterilizes instruments when used or assigned.
  4. Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers tests and obtains results.
  5. Assists provider with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.
  6. Schedules patients for testing procedures.
  7. Perform drug and breath alcohol screenings and hair collections.
  8. Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments as directed.
  9. Works clinical inbox of the provider.
  10. Performs and reports in-house lab testing. Run hearing booth. (FIT testing, Titnus, PFT, EKG etc)
  11. Ability to effectively and efficiently navigate and document in EHR.
  12. Communicate and coordinate patient care with employer/WC insurance adjuster.
  13. Attends required meetings, in-services and trainings as requested.
  14. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  15. Perform Breath Alcohol tests.
  16. Complete and manage Worker's Com referrals as needed.
  17. Ability to input and navigate DOT national registry.
  18. Has familiarity with the paperwork for Immigration and DOT pre-employment physicals.
  19. Performs related work as required.
  20. Observe health and safety requirements.
  21. Maintain knowledge of splinting and wrapping procedures.
  22. Reviews and prepares paperwork to be forwarded to employers.

Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an accredited medical assisting or nursing program.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in an outpatient medical office using an EHR, preferred

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly.

Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certified Medical Assistant Degree from accredited Allied Health Professional Education Institution or valid Nursing License in the state of TN, if applicable. DOT BAT Certification and Professional Collector Certification preferred. CPR certification.

Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. May be required to help lift/transfer patient. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
