Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Examples of Duties)

1. Perform complete physical examinations on various types of patients such as

  • Pre-employment and annual physicals for local industry and employers
  • Annual exams on City of Clarksville firefighters
  • Respiratory exams and respirator fit testing for local industry
  • Exams for ROTC scholarship candidates and military academy candidates
  • Certification exams for DOT Commercial Driver's License.

2. Evaluate and treat workers with work-place injuries.

  • Have or gain familiarity with Department of Labor forms and Workman's Compensation Insurance regulations and policies

  • Competent in suturing skin lacerations, care of minor eye injuries, care of injuries to finger and toes, evaluation and management of orthopedic injuries such as sprains and strains of neck and back and other joints, shoulder injuries, skin problems, burns and dermatitis

  • Understand appropriate referrals of injured workers for physical therapy and specialty care when needed.

    • Collaborate with companies and their EHS/Safety Managers to understand and manage the care, duties and limitations of employees.
    • Provide progressive approach to treatment and management of workers compensation insurance patients.
    • Effectively, educate patients about treatment, progress plan and injury prevention for the future.

3. Other skills and duties

  • Basic interpretations of ECGs, plain film x-rays, basic laboratory tests (CBC, CMP, Urinalysis, lipid), pulmonary function tests, audiograms
  • Visit local worksites as needed to establish relationships with safety personnel and employers
  • Appropriately order advanced imaging studies to include MRI, CT, US
  • Perform duties under the supervision of PMG's Occ Med physician
  • Ability to see 20-24 patients a day

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to operate medical instruments required for physical exam and minor procedures and computer hardware/software.

EDUCATION

Physician Assistant Applicants: Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies

Nurse Practitioner Applicants: Master of Science in Nursing

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one year experience as PA or NP in a primary care, emergency room, or occupational medicine setting.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

Physician Assistant Applicants - Current state PA license, certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, current CPR certification.

Nurse Practitioner Applicants - Current state RN license. Current state license as an advance registered nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting. Requires ability to help transfer patient. Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and tense patients. Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS - Medical office and exam room settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to clinic. Frequent contact with variety of people.
