THE ROLE

The OT Support Officer will be a key member of a team dedicated to building, supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting issues within the manufacturing OT environments at Nyrstar’s Clarksville Smelter. This role entails implementing and maintaining IT/OT infrastructure in accordance with Nyrstar's standards. A deep understanding of plant processes and the accompanying IT/OT technologies is critical to minimize interruptions and downtime. The position will leverage traditional IT infrastructure skills to support OT systems effectively. It is essential that this role has a good understanding of lower level control systems and protocols so it can liaise with the plant’s instrumentation and controls team.

Operations

  • Operate and support the computing and networking platforms supporting the plant Foxboro DCS system (Layers 2 and 3 of Purdue Reference Model). This involves managing the virtualization environment (MS Hyper-V) including the physical and virtual servers, ensuring software updates are implemented (per DCS manufacturer’s specifications) and issues are tracked through resolution.
  • Manage the OT domain Active Directory, setting up user accounts and ensuring these are disabled when users are no longer engaged. Ensure that the OT domain hardening policies are in place and operating as expected.
  • Track and manage the OT Incident and Request queues ensuring the tickets are handled according to the defined SLAs. Ensure tickets are documented completely and updates are provided to the users.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting mechanisms to ensure that potential networking and server outages are detected and prevented. Leverage existing tools such as PRTG to achieve this.
  • Collaborate with Regional Infrastructure Engineer, the site Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls team and the external partners (vendors/contractors) in the design and implement OT solutions that leverage Nyrstar’s standards, ensuring that the solutions enable the efficient and cyber secure flow of data.
  • Manage or participate in OT projects as needed, ensuring that project activities are carried out according to Nyrstar’s PMO guidelines and that progress updates are reported regularly.
  • Liaise with OT/Instrumentation and the broader IT organization for IT/OT systems integration and architecture design across the Purdue layers.
  • Manage and action cyber security incidents (via OT SOC), ensuring these are addressed promptly through resolution.
  • Maintain up to date CMDB (configuration management database) records in ServiceNow for all components of infrastructure under responsibility.
  • Image and deploy OT PCs (laptops/desktops/thin clients). Manage and support as necessary.
  • Ensure cyber security resources and machanisms are in place and active (ie. Antivirus, passwords, policies, etc)
  • Execution and testing of data back-ups and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Collaborates in the preparation and the execution of local OT budgets including the creation of purchase requisitions and service entries, the analysis of cost center reports, being ready to provide explanations for any deviations
  • Provide input for / assist in OT Vendor Service Contract design, selection and reviews ensuring that Nyrstar receives the best provider services.

People and Organization

  • Participates in annual Performance Management Planning by working and achieving assigned goals.
  • Actively participate and collaborate with other members of the Business Systems team, locally, regionally and globally to enable cross site knowledge sharing, maximize effectiveness and ensure standardization.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Control and Automation, or Computer Science preferred.
  • 4+ years of increasingly responsible experience in IT and OT hardware and software support, with a strong emphasis on process control systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Solid knowledge of different OT/IIoT communication protocols, topologies, and technologies including Profibus, Modbus, Industrial Ethernet, etc.
  • Profound understanding of Process Control and Automation concepts like DCS, PLC, Control Loops, Set Points, Measurements, Interlocks, Analog and Digital IO, 4-20mA.
  • Basic knowledge of Cisco LAN/WAN networking technologies and the associated protocols and topologies.
  • ITIL v3 or v4 Foundation or other advanced ITIL Certification is preferred. This involves understanding key ITIL processes for Problem, Incident, Request, Change, and Configuration Management.
  • Knowledge and experience using and supporting MS Office 365 applications and cloud services.
  • Experience in a global, multi-cultural, and multi-time zone organization working with top-level executives.
  • Understanding of backup and restore operations.
  • Ability to understand and operate within budget constraints.
