The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of Montgomery County parkland and facilities, ensuring a clean and safe experience for all park visitors. The role involves leading the Park Services team members, managing the cleaning and janitorial operations for parks and rental facilities, coordinating staff logistics, and ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Department: Parks & Recreation

Pay Grade: 80, non-exempt

Starting hourly rate: $23.97

Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of janitorial or maintenance experience required and one (1) year of supervisory experience

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Certifications, Licenses:

  • Must have dependable transportation.

  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.

  • Current Driver’s License.

  • Must obtain an IEHA certification within the first (1) year through Hillyard University.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, requiring mobility and physical activity. Work environment includes exposure to noise, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and subject to slip, trip and fall hazards as well as mechanical operations injury risk. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/ACTIVITIES:

  • This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of lifting/moving or force and occasional lift, move or drag 75 pounds or more while performing essential functions of the job.

  • Work regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and speak and hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others in English.

  • Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.

  • Work is frequently performed in a noisy environment around mechanical equipment.

  • Responsible for work operations of daily staff with quick and effective communication

  • Ensures all rental facilities and pavilions are clean, stocked, and prepared for the daily rentals

  • Communicates with the administrative team to conduct tours of rental facilities

  • Performs daily inspections of all assigned Park properties and facilities. Establishes priority maintenance needs and communicating all issues to the Park Services Supervisor.

  • Prepares season opening and closing for each assigned area.

  • Responsible for carrying out all janitorial duties in all Park facilities and restrooms to Montgomery County Parks and Recreation expectations. This includes but is not limited to cleaning all trash cans and park furniture, toilets, sinks, partitions, floors, doors, walls, and light fixtures.

  • Works closely with Park Services Supervisor for work schedules and daily park logistics

  • Ensures that all supplies are stocked at each location to perform daily duties and notifies Park Services Supervisor of any shortages.

  • Follows provided standard operating procedures for the park facilities.

  • Performs minor landscape maintenance functions such as using a pull behind blower, leaf vac, backpack blower, and weeding.

  • Coordinates with weekend Parks employees to ensure all events and programs are well stocked and maintained

  • Cleans and maintains trails, playgrounds, pavilions, and open green space as assigned.

  • Performs continuous sweeping, mopping, blowing, and pressure washing of Park Features including but not limited to sidewalks, furniture, pavilions, trash receptacles, dumpster bays, dugouts and bleachers.

  • Replenishes all facility products and keeps dispensers full for community access.

  • Responsible for post rental inspection, cleaning and refreshment of all indoor facilities for next day’s rental.

  • Updates all Parks media kiosks with proper rental information.

  • Monitors all Park activity over the weekend to ensure proper party occupancy according to the reservation schedule for all indoor facilities, pavilions, and athletic fields.

  • Responsible for exchanging light fixtures, as well as exchanging batteries for automated door handles and commodes.

  • Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.

  • Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.

  • Keep designated work station cleaned, organized, and professional at all times.

  • Completes written records of labor and materials used for each work project.

  • Position requires working evenings, weekends, special events and some holidays.

  • Other duties as assigned.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no fiscal responsibilities.
