Job Summary (Basic Functions): LG Chem Advance Materials, Inc. (LGCTA) is actively searching for a Safety Supervisor to join our team in Clarksville, TN. The Safety Supervisor will be a lead reporting to the EHS Director. The EHS Supervisor will lead the development and implementation of long-term strategic EHS systems and programs in support of behavior-based safety, risk assessment/hazard identification, environmental/sustainability, and employee health.
What You’ll Be Doing
Essential Functions (including but are not limited to):
Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Oversee the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, systems, and programs necessary to continuously improve and foster a positive EHS culture.
- Oversee the facility’s Job Safety Analysis (JSA) program to enhance and ensure compliance with the system to identify and control workplace hazards by breaking down tasks, identifying potential dangers, and recommending safe procedures, ultimately ensuring a safer work environment.
- Continuously monitor the effectiveness of EHS procedures and implement improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate EHS principles into capital projects and day-to-day activities.
- Actively work as a key Management of Change (MoC) stakeholder to ensure that production and facility changes result in improved controls of EHS risks.
Compliance
- Complete site reporting consistent with EPA, OSHA, and LG Chem corporate requirements.
- Provide guidance to the site Leadership Team regarding EHS strategic objectives and regulatory compliance issues.
- Manage the resolution of identified EHS audit findings.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, DOT, EPA, TDEC and other applicable regulatory agencies
Training:
- Conduct safety orientation for all new hires, covering general safety, company policies, and procedures to ensure understanding of safe work practices.
- Coordinate and/or perform safety validations of all new and/or modified equipment and/or processes. Evaluate and identify areas of improvement from a safety and health perspective to ensure employee safety. Provide training to key qualified associates to assist in conducting safety validations.
- Provide leadership, training, and strategic guidance for the Safety Team, plant business production teams, production supervisors, and support areas, as well as EHS project teams.
- Drive safety culture initiatives, implementing policies, training, and safety systems to reduce hazards and improve employee safety.
Emergency Response:
- Work with Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedics) to respond to acute medical emergencies. The work site will employee an Industrial Nurse to treat minor work-related injuries from a dedicated Triage and First Aid onsite room but may require field response to support local EMS.
- Conduct post-incident investigations to identify lessons learned and improve future preparedness.
- Ensure that the workplace has adequate resources, such as first aid kits, medical equipment, and communication devices, to respond to emergencies.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: What We’re Looking For
Competencies/Desired Skills:
- Safety Regulations and Standards: A thorough understanding of relevant OSHA regulations, industry standards, and company safety policies is crucial.
- Risk Assessment and Management: Effective risk management not only minimizes the likelihood of accidents but also enhances the overall safety culture within an organization.
- Incident Investigation: Trained and experienced in recognized effective incident investigation techniques (Ishikawa, 5 Whys, SCAT)
- Auditing: Trained and experienced in auditing EHS management system
- Communication Skills: Adept in both verbal and written communication, enabling the ability to train staff, report incidents, and liaise with management and external customers
- Leadership and Decision Making: Ability to lead and make sound decisions that can significantly impact the safety outcomes within their jurisdiction
- Technical Expertise: Familiarity with the latest safety technologies and tools ensures that safety protocols are up-to-date and relevant to current industry standards.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or safety-related discipline; or equivalent experience.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years or more working as an EHS Specialist, EHS Engineer or related role.
- Experience in heavy chemical industries such as glass or raw materials batch manufacturing, semiconductor industry, or pharmaceuticals.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.;
- Exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and other garments as needed. This may include hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, respirators, full body gowns, hair nets, gloves, and hearing protection.
Preferred Qualification/What We’d Like to See:
- CSP, CIH, CHMM preferred
- Advanced experience in controlling process hazards using skills in Industrial Hygiene, Machinery Safety, Control of Hazardous Energy and Electrical Safety.
- Proficiency in the use of PC and Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word etc.)
