About the position
We are looking for a skilled Manager to lead HR Employee Relations to actively participate in establishing positive employee relations within the Company. This includes actively leading and supporting the activities and staff involved in developing and maintaining employee relation activities, policies, and procedures. Maintains and promotes effective employee relations objectives and programs which support the attainment of company objectives through proper utilization of Human Resources. This role is to evolve into a force for continuous improvement of employee morale while maintaining orderly utilization of human capital through ensuring Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
Responsibilities are:
- Manages Employee Relations investigations and recommend a level of corrective action and countermeasures to the HR Director, Executive and President if needed
- Leads investigations and audits regarding compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable policies
- Conducts corrective action meetings including termination
- Manages compliance hotline cases when Legal assigns
- Leads the interpretation and implementation of established Human Resources policies and procedures throughout the Company
- Leads, supervises and develops ER specialists and coordinators
- Leads the overall direction of the Company employee relations, training programs, and ensures compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations and other governmental regulations
- Manages government contacts and up-to-date information on regulations and laws including DOL, EEOC, ICE and law enforcement
- Determines reasonable accommodations complying with governmental regulations
- Assists in promoting and enhancing the Company’s image
- Participates in community affairs and represents the company in professional organizations
- Develops and recommends programs for the establishment of performance standards for employees
- Assists in developing methods for establishing standards for hourly & salaried personnel
- Analyses issues such as absenteeism, leave status, consistent policy application, safety, productivity, etc. to determine employee relations climate and to drive approved recommendations for improvement
- Leads and drives the development and coordination of programs and plans to improve employee morale and ensure employee involvement
- Recommends and coordinates training and management development activities
- Complies with and actively supports the health, safety, and environmental programs, quality programs, policies, and procedures of the Company
- Must effectively utilize time and prioritize activities to ensure at least 50% of time is spent on workforce development and morale enhancement
- Must operate as an advocate for both employees and the Company consistent with Company policies, external laws and regulations and common sense
- Establishes and executes labor relations strategy
- Represents organization in contract negotiations, meetings, and negotiations with employees and labor organizations
- Collaborates with leadership on matters of policy and terms of memoranda of understanding before and throughout negotiation process
- Collaborates with legal counsel and departments in the preparation for and participation in negotiation with employee and labor groups
- Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding Human Resources policies, employee handbook, and other employment issues. After analyzing the information, make recommendations on changes
- Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning employment to managers, expatriates, supervisors, and employees
- Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Requirements are:
Education:
- (Required) bachelor's degree
- (Preferred) human resource management, organizational psychology, or labor relations
- (Preferred) advanced degree in a related field
Experience:
- (Required) 3 + years of relevant HR experience and 5+ years of managerial experience
- (Required) 2+ years of dedicated employee relations/labor relations experience
- (Preferred) previous experience in the manufacturing industry
Language:
- (Required) good command of written and spoken English
Skills & Knowledge:
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Personnel and Human Resources - Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems
- Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
- Psychology - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
- Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
- Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to frequently move about the manufacturing plant campus, general office environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Must be able to position self to file documents including the top and bottom drawers of file cabinets
- Must be able to occasionally move office equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
