Job Title: Safety Specialist
Department: Environmental Health & Safety Team
Shift: This position supports a staggered shift schedule across 24/7 plant operations. Safety Specialists are scheduled to work 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week. Newly hired or replacement Safety Specialists may be assigned to any available schedule based on business needs, and a specific shift cannot be guaranteed at the time of posting.

About the position
The Shift Safety Specialist is the on-shift safety leader responsible for supporting safe operations, responding to safety concerns, and ensuring compliance with site standards across the TP campus. This role provides real‑time guidance to supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel; manages incident reporting and employee safety submissions; and supports LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, and hazard identification activities. The Shift Safety Specialist is the primary safety resource for their assigned shift and plays a critical role in driving an enhanced safety culture and achieving shift‑level safety KPIs.
Responsibilities are:
- Function as a lead advocate for TP’s “Safety Always” culture and to actively support and live safety excellence
- Execute the company’s objectives and strategies related to EHS to ensure full compliance
- Analyse potential hazards in the workplace, equipment, and processes, and evaluating the associated risks
- Actively support and coordinate all audit activities and lead the remediation of all significant audit findings, adverse events and drive interim and long-term solutions and avoidance
- Implementing continuous improvement strategies to enhance safety practices and reduce risk
- Support the adherence of OSHA machine guarding standards, and ensure programs, and equipment are safe and meet all federal, state and local laws
- Drive continuous improvement in accident and incident rates throughout the TP campus and support the development of proactive programs and effective implementation
- Implement initiatives to reduce the level of work-related accidents and/ or occupational hazards
- Actively support initiatives to ensure the TP campus is free from hazardous substances which may be chemical, physical or biological in nature
- Visibly support positive employee perception of the company’s personal concern for their well-being
- Engage in an effective collaborative approach with the manufacturing and maintenance leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Requirements are:
Education:
- (Required) bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Occupation Safety, Safety management, or other similar degrees OR 1+ years of EHS related experience in a manufacturing intensive environment
Experience:
- (Required) 1+ years of EHS related experience in a manufacturing intensive environment OR a bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Occupation Safety, Safety management, or other similar degree
Language:
- (Required) good command of written and spoken English
Skills & Knowledge:
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe and security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Active Listening & Speaking - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times; talking to others to convey information effectively
- Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to frequently move about the manufacturing plant campus, general office environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Must be able to position self to file documents including the top and bottom drawers of file cabinets
- Must be able to occasionally move office equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
