About the Extruding Die Technician position

We are looking for a Die Technician to design, fabricate, repair, and modify Tread/Sidewall/Bead extrusion dies to facilitate the Extrusion/Bead manufacturing process to meet customer and company specifications.

You should be reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards, as well as willingness to learn and improve. We also expect you to be a good team player.

Die Technician responsibilities are:

  • Machine Setup and Operation: Setting up and operating extrusion lines according to work orders and specifications. This includes selecting and installing the correct dies, calibrating equipment, and loading raw materials
  • Quality Control: Continuously monitoring the extrusion process to ensure the product meets quality standards. Use of precision tools like calipers and micrometers to measure dimensions, checking for defects. (E.g. surface imperfections, inconsistencies, and real time adjustments)
  • Die and Tooling Management: Proper handling of Extruding/ Bead dies, cleaning, and storage of dies and other tooling. Minor repairs and maintenance of dies. Keep proper inventory of die management
  • Product management: Restart die management (check the profile to modify the die). Learn to operate all extrusion machines and assist with production on a needed basis
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Diagnosing and resolving issues that arise during production to minimize downtime. (flow problems, machine malfunctions, quality defects)
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Completing production paperwork which may include machine settings, production output, quality control data issues and records of all repairing of extrusion dies
  • Die Maintenance and Repair: Inspecting and analyzing and repairing extrusion dies to identify defects or issues that affect product quality
  • Correction and Modification: Used specialized tools such as grinders, polishers, and machining equipment, to modify and correct dies to improve performance and ensure the final product meets specifications
  • Safety: Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures
  • Collaboration: Work closely with all other team members, including die makers, maintenance staff, and supervisors, to ensure smooth and efficient production
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

    Die Technician requirements are:

      Education:

      • (Required) high school diploma or GED

      Experience:

      • (Preferred) previous relevant experience

      Language:

      • (Required) good command of written and spoken English

      Skills & Knowledge:

      • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
      • Operations Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
      • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
      • Critical Thinking Skills - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
      • Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively
      • Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
      • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
      • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents

      Physical Demands:

      • While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; to reach with hands and arms; and to talk and hear
      • Must be capable of climbing up and down a ladder/stairs several times per shift
      • Must be capable of standing for long periods of time
      • Mobility throughout the facility
      • Employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, walk, or crouch
      • Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted on occasion
      • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus
