Job Title: Production Supervisor I

Department: Manufacturing

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Job Summary: The Production Supervisor I role supervises a staff of production employees. Ensures adherence to established operations and safety policies and procedures. Maintains standards in the areas of housekeeping, safety, attendance, and operational discipline. Responsible for communications up and down the line and for assuring that communications from team members are accurate and complete. Responsible for responding to personnel, operational and safety, and environmental incidents. Ensure work is completed in accordance with production schedules.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and review them with the operations team in real-time.
  • Effectively communicate and implement site directions and messages to the operations team and ensure the work alignment is clear.
  • Communicate Production needs to ensure the production of material at the specific quality and expected rates.
  • Ensure production is executed per the production schedule.
  • Ensure team members are productive and execute work according to established procedures and policies.
  • Coordinate daily work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staffing for the effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads.
  • Facilitate Visual Performance Management activities with team members including problem-solving.
  • Complete required documentation, such as checklists, shift notes, attendance, and audits.
  • Coordinate production line-related maintenance activities and foster 5S philosophy within the team.
  • Ensure employees follow the established Maintenance Work Management Process, especially early work identification
  • Interface with Maintenance, Planning Groups, Production Engineers, etc. on priorities and needs to ensure effective execution of work and attainment of production needs.
  • Investigate incidents and injuries and prepare reports of findings in cooperation with the EH&S department.
  • Serve as Incident Commander for emergency response situations.
  • Set expectations and hold people accountable for Core Value compliance (Ethics & Respect for People) and model the appropriate behavior.
  • Monitors area quality parameters and ensure team compliance against established quality SOCs and expectations.
  • Leads or participates in the investigation of quality non-conformances for the Area and determines appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure employees comply with established Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Conditions.
  • Collaborates with workers and managers to solve work-related problems.
  • Completes employee administrative activities such as approving time cards, corrective action, and compliance with personnel policies and prepares other administrative reports of employee information.
  • Evaluates employee performance and prepare performance appraisals in a timely manner.
  • Manage employee training to ensure the skills and capabilities of the team meet IATF 1649, safety, and other company requirements.
  • Works with team members to continually improve area work environment and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the operations management team

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Communication: Including active speaking/listening, reading/writing skills in accordance with standard business practices and decorum
  • Critical Thinking/Troubleshooting: Using logic and reasoning to identify problems as well as the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Details: Must have attention to details for all areas of work
  • Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of computers including internet browsers and the ability to learn other programs
  • Ethical Behavior: Must maintain the highest ethical standards in the conduct of company affairs; must conduct business with integrity and comply with all applicable laws in a manner that excludes considerations of personal advantage or gain

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus
  • Two or more years of Manufacturing/industrial experience
  • Proven ability to lead, train, coach, and develop others
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of computer use such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be able to work rotating 12-hour shifts as assigned
  • Working knowledge of employment law
  • Operations, scheduling, and planning experiences
  • Advanced knowledge of the regulatory requirements of EEOC, OSHA, and EPA as they pertain to a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment:

  • This position works in a manufacturing setting. This role routinely uses standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position may work with hazardous materials where personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary, and specific procedures must be followed to adhere to
    safety regulations.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • When performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to climb, balance, bend, squat, reach, grasp, and do hand dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be capable of standing for long periods of as well as traveling throughout the factory.
  • Must be able to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Individuals occasionally exposed to lead dust and sulfuric acid
  • The noise level in areas above 85 DB requires ear protection
  • Regularly working in a dirty lead-contaminated area and must wear a uniform and safety shoes in that area to prevent the tracking and/or possible lead contamination of other clean areas.
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE while in production area
  • Must be able to pass Physical Exam
  • Must be able to pass a (PFT) Pulmonary Function Test for respirator wear
