Fire Alarm System Technician

Job Summary

FSI is looking to hire a Fire Alarm System Tech. Responsible for performing tests & inspections on fire alarm systems. But not limited to installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire alarm systems. The Alarm technician is responsible for testing & inspecting fire alarm systems in the most efficient manner to ensure minimum downtime and maximum performance. All inspections must meet the highest quality standards set forth by FSI, while assuring a professional and safe working environment.

Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responds to customer’s service-related issues promptly and must have the ability to effectively deal with customers, some of which will require high levels of patience.
  • Maintain the ability to effectively communicate the needs required to complete scope of work to all parties responsible for portions affecting the timely completion of that scope.
  • Responsible for, but not limited to the mobilization, wiring, device trim, final hookup, troubleshooting, testing, and final inspection of fire alarm equipment for new jobs.
  • To test, troubleshoot, and program fire alarm systems and documentation required to meet all applicable industry codes and standards.
  • The ability to effectively hand and computer program fire alarm panels.
  • Follow all company’s policies and procedures.
  • Trains and instructs Crew Members and peers as needed.
    Responsible for reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Responsible for the operation of the following test equipment: Volt Meter, Ohm Meter, Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Tone Generator, and Battery Tester.
  • Consistently analyze and update tools to maintain efficiency and examine and recommend the use and purchase of labor-saving devices.
  • Have a working knowledge of construction tools including but not limited to Step ladders, extension ladders, scissor lifts, hand tools, power tools cordless tools, powder actuated tools, cutting tools, wire pulling devices, and fastening systems.
  • Full compliance with FSI’s and customer’s safety program.
  • Research and obtain information on position-specific training opportunities.
  • Obtain a NICET level II within six months of becoming a Fire Alarm Test & Inspector.
  • Regularly attend and participate in training classes or programs to increase one’s knowledge and help train others.
  • Other duties as required or assigned by FSI’s management.
  • Will have the responsibility of properly caring for, maintaining, and follow all company policies for the company provided tablet
  • Is responsible for properly updating and maintaining reports as required by management.
  • Assist in the OMPR and/or RPIE validation on as needed bases.
  • Assist in site assessments and provide all collected data to the Travel Team Lead

Qualifications and/or Certifications

  • Technicians with recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire protection systems, such as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) (Level II certification in Inspection Fire Alarm Systems

or
Technicians with other recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for the specific fire protection feature, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs.
or
Technicians completing the Fire Suppression Systems Maintenance course (J3AZR3E451 01FB) at the Technical Training Center, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. The 82nd Training Wing, 782nd Training Group, 366th Training Squadron provides engineer craftsman skills training for all DoD branches and has both Army and Navy detachments assigned to the squadron

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurable driving record.
  • Willing and able to travel to various business sites.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a NACI (National Agency Check with Inquiries)
  • Will also have or gain proficiency required RCM software.
  • Must be willing to Travel up to 75%

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three (3) years related experience in healthcare facilities.
  • Shall possess knowledge of assigned Electrical equipment fundamentals.
  • Shall have detailed knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance tools.
  • Knowledge working from O&M manuals, blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose troubles/alarms in the low voltage systems.
  • Experience with common electrician hand tools, measuring and testing instruments and computer-based maintenance applications.
  • Should also be proficient in identifying code requirement issues.
