JOB SUMMARY:
Officiate at competitive athletic or sporting events. Detects infractions of rules and decides penalties according to established regulations.

***PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A SEASONAL PART TIME POSITION THAT WILL END ONCE THE SEASON IS OVER. TSSAA CERTIFICATION IS PREFERRED AND KNOWLEDGE OF VOLLEYBALL RULES AND REGULATIONS IS REQUIRED. IF SELECTED, MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL GAMES ON SATURDAYS, NOVEMBER THROUGH DECEMEBER 2026***

Example of Duties

JOB DUTIES:

  • Enforces rules of the game;
  • Makes sure the rules of the game are being followed by both players and coaches;
  • Assesses fouls, violations, or any unsportsmanlike conduct that takes place on the field/court;
  • Makes sure coaches are in designated areas, players are in correct positions, and fans are not on the field or court;
  • Maintains order of the field or court;
  • Provides a fair environment for all players, coaches, and fans;
  • Inspects equipment to make sure all are suitable for play before the beginning of the game;
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.,

Typical Qualifications

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TSSAA Certification is preferred.

Supplemental Information

KNOWLEDGE (Position requirements at entry):
  • Knowledge of sport rules and regulations;
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including speaking to groups;
  • Ability to walk, run, and lift continuously for multiple hours;
  • Ability to handle fast-paced, high stress environment;
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, running, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to blood borne pathogens.
