CLASS SUMMARY:
This is the fourth of seven levels in the Grounds and Facilities Maintenance series. Incumbents drive and operate commercial vehicles including: chipper truck, skid steer, bucket truck, and one-ton pickups, as well as utilize equipment such as chainsaws and hand tools to complete various forestry-related projects.***PLEASE NOTE: ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE IN ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, CONCRETE WORK, OR CARPENTRY IS A PLUS BUT IS NOT REQUIRED. TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Works with and maintains a wide variety of trees;
- Under general supervision, uses comprehensive knowledge to perform work associated with the planting, care and maintenance, and removal of trees on City-owned property, parks, and rights-of-way;
- Operates various equipment and tools which are used for daily tree work projects;
- Prunes and maintains trees on City property, parks, and rights-of-way;
- Performs planting, transplanting, watering, fertilization, and mulching projects;
- Loads and unloads all equipment for transporting to work sites;
- Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work;
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Typical Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), one year of related tree trimming experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
Licensing Requirements:- Valid driver's license required; CDL license preferred.
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):- Procedures and methods related to area of assignment;
- Applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in grounds maintenance activities;
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and general equipment and maintenance principles;
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;
- Inventory principles;
- Recordkeeping principles;
- Computers and related software applications;
- Safe work practices.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
Skill in:- Tree maintenance;
- Completing (or willing to learn) labor, trades, construction, and/or repair projects;
- Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment;
- Performing trades maintenance activities;
- Reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings;
- Applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory;
- Maintaining records;
- Using a computer and related software applications;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, bloodborne pathogens, and chemicals.
