CDE Lightband, the municipal power provider for the City of Clarksville, offers electric, television, Internet, and phone service to customers within the city limits. We serve over 85,000 metered homes and businesses with electric service, and over 32,000 customers with broadband services over our Fiber-to-the-Premise Network.

We are seeking a high-caliber Substation Maintenance Technician to join our Operations team in ensuring the relentless reliability of Clarksville's electrical infrastructure. As our city experiences historic growth, this role is on the front line of defense for our critical assets, responsible for the testing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of high-voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and relay protection systems. Job Summary

Incumbents operate, maintain, and repair substations and electrical equipment. Responsibilities may include participating in the construction of substations; maintaining, operating, and testing substation equipment; installing and testing transmission, distribution, telecommunications, and data equipment; and maintaining records of activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Tests, builds, repairs, and maintains substations and substation equipment, including repairing and replacing parts and systems, constructing substations, and modifying systems as necessary.
  • Installs and tests transmission, distribution, telecommunications, and data equipment, including electronic repair.
  • Monitors compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and safety
  • Prepares a variety of operational records and logs
  • Perform other duties as assigned, of a similar nature, or to provide assistance as needed

Qualifications

Education:

High School Degree or Equivalent

Experience:

Three years of related work experience

Certifications &

Licenses:

Class D Driver's License

CPR/AED or ability to obtain upon hire

Other Requirements:

An equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, which are also considered


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable of the basics of substation maintenance, installation, and testing practices and procedures
  • Knowledgeable of Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledgeable of record-keeping principles
  • Skilled in Basic Computer and related software applications
  • Skilled in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining substation and utilizing the applicable equipment needed
  • Skilled in reading and comprehending training documents
  • Skilled in organizing and presenting data, preparing operational records, and reports
  • Ability to work independently and individually, and to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety

Working Conditions

  • Indoor & Outdoor working position, requiring incumbents to travel from the office to the worksite via the company
  • Requires constant indoor and outdoor work with potential for extreme outdoor temperatures
  • Potential to work outside normal working hours on occasion
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, dust, poor ventilation, intense noises, environmental disturbances, workspace restrictions, working from extended heights, and travel.
  • Position could be scheduled for 'On-Call' Rotation
