Summary:

Austin Peay State University's Department of Health and Human Performance is building a pool of qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses across its programs, including Kinesiology, Public Health, Healthcare Management, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and K-12 Physical Education Teaching Licensure. Applications submitted to this pool will be reviewed as teaching needs arise throughout the academic year. Course assignments are made on an as-needed, semester-by-semester basis and are not guaranteed.

Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Performance seeks qualified applicants interested in part-time instruction within one or more of the following areas: Kinesiology, Public Health, Healthcare Management, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or K-12 Physical Education Teaching Licensure. Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction consistent with departmental and university standards, whether teaching in a face-to-face, hybrid, or online format.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver instruction in assigned course(s) consistent with approved syllabi and course objectives
  2. Develop and maintain course materials, assignments, and assessments appropriate to the discipline
  3. Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback
  4. Maintain regular communication with students and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  5. Submit grades and required documentation by university deadlines
  6. Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity, accessibility, and student privacy (FERPA)
  7. Participate in department orientation and training as required
  8. Communicate regularly with the Department Chair regarding course progress and student concerns

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a closely related field from an accredited institution (a terminal degree may be required for certain graduate-level courses)
  2. Evidence of content expertise relevant to the assigned course(s)
  3. For Communication Sciences and Disorders courses: appropriate certification/licensure as required by the discipline (e.g., ASHA certification, state SLP licensure), where applicable
  4. For K-12 Physical Education Teaching Licensure courses: appropriate teaching licensure and/or K-12 classroom experience, where applicable

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Prior teaching experience at the college level
  2. Experience teaching in an online or hybrid format
  3. Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in the relevant discipline

About the Department of Health & Human Performance:

The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) serves approximately 435 majors in two undergraduate programs: a B.S. in Kinesiology with two concentrations and a B.S. in Health and Human Performance with five concentrations. In addition, HHP has approximately 130 graduate students across four programs: Master of Healthcare Administration, Master of Science in Health and Human Performance, Master of Public Health, and Master of Speech-Language Pathology. The department houses state-of-the-art instructional and laboratory spaces in a brand new 115,000 ft² Health Professions Building that opened in August 2025.
