The role of the College of Business Student Success Coordinator is to enhance the
academic advising, recruitment, and retention efforts for the college’s undergraduate
students. This senior academic advising role will support the Student Success Director
by providing leadership to the Academic Advising Team, spearheading recruitment and
retention initiatives, and supervising key personnel and student workers. The
Coordinator will play a vital role in shaping the college’s student success strategies
and fostering an environment where students thrive academically and professionally.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Advising Leadership
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to the College of Business
Academic Advising Team.
• Assist with the development and implementation of best practices in
academic advising to support undergraduate students.
• Serve as a senior academic advisor, assisting students with complex
academic planning and decision-making.
Recruitment and Retention Coordination
• Lead the college’s undergraduate recruitment and retention efforts in
collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Attend APSU Preview Days and represent the College of Business at
recruitment fairs, high school visits, and other outreach events.
• Work closely with the College of Business Recruitment and Retention
Committee to develop and implement innovative strategies to attract and
retain students.
Program Development and Assessment
• Coordinate and execute recruitment and retention programs tailored to
the needs of the College of Business’s diverse student body.
• Collect and analyze data on recruitment and retention initiatives,
providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement innovative strategies to enhance the student
experience, increase enrollment, and improve retention rates.
Student Engagement and Advocacy
• Serve as a resource for students, fostering an inclusive and supportive
environment.
• Advocate for the needs of students in collaboration with faculty and
college leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current professional literature trends in academic advising, and University and degree requirements.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with various populations, the University community, students, family members, and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information; maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SungardHE Banner, EAB Navigate).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong planning, collaboration and time-management skills.
- Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), EAB Navigate, and SungardHE Banner.
- Knowledge of APSU undergraduate degree requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, both verbally and in writing.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or higher in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related fields.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in higher education advising or student success initiatives experience.
- A background check will be required of the successful candidate.

- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook & Zoom
Physical Requirements
- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
