The Investigator & Compliance Trainer plays a critical role in advancing Austin Peay State University’s commitment to equity, access, and a culture of belonging. This position is responsible for conducting fair, thorough, and trauma-informed investigations related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, retaliation, and accessibility concerns under federal and state civil rights laws, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, ADA/Section 504, and related institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities


Investigation & Case Management
• Conduct prompt, impartial, and thorough investigations into complaints involving
discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, retaliation, and accessibility
concerns.
• Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses using trauma-informed,
culturally responsive practices.
• Gather, analyze, and synthesize evidence; prepare detailed investigative reports
with clear findings of fact.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential case files in compliance with federal
and state regulations.
• Collaborate with Title IX, ADA/504, HR, Legal Affairs, Student Affairs, and other
campus partners to ensure coordinated responses.
• Provide consultation to campus stakeholders regarding policy interpretation,
reporting obligations, and supportive measures.
Training, Education & Prevention
• Develop and deliver engaging, accessible training programs on Title IX, Title VI, Title
VII, ADA/504, EEO, and institutional policies.
• Tailor training for diverse audiences, including students, faculty, staff, supervisors,
search committees, and leadership teams.
• Create educational materials, online modules, and resources that promote
awareness, prevention, and compliance.
• Assess training effectiveness and implement improvements based on feedback and
emerging best practices.
Policy, Compliance & Institutional Support
• Assist in reviewing and updating university policies to ensure alignment with federal
and state regulations.
• Support the development of campus-wide prevention initiatives and culture-building
efforts.
• Track trends, identify systemic issues, and recommend strategies to strengthen
equity and accessibility.
• Prepare reports, data summaries, and compliance documentation as required by
law or institutional leadership.
• Participate in committees, working groups, and climate initiatives that advance
equity and belonging.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in higher education, human resources, law, social sciences,
public administration, leadership, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting investigations in compliance, HR, Legal
Affairs, or higher education setting.
• Knowledge of federal civil rights laws, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII,
ADA/Section 504, VAWA, Clery, and related regulations.
• Strong interviewing, analytical, and writing skills with the ability to produce clear,
comprehensive reports.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Experience developing and delivering training to diverse audiences.


Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree or J.D.
• Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex organization.
• Certification or formal training in civil rights investigations (ATIXA, NACUA, EEOC, etc.).
• Experience with trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches, or conflict resolution.
• Familiarity with case management systems (Maxient, Advocate, etc.).

Work Environment
This position requires the ability to manage sensitive and emotionally complex situations, maintain strict confidentiality, and work collaboratively across departments. The position is 75% remote and 25% in-person. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for training or urgent care needs.
