Position Title: Coordinator of Clinical Education, Master of Athletic Training

This is a full-time (100% FTE), 9-month, 3-year renewable non-tenure track position beginning August 1, 2026

Summary:

Austin Peay State University's Department of Health and Human Performance seeks an energetic and dynamic professional to serve as the founding Coordinator of Clinical Education for the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will provide direct oversight and leadership for all clinical education for our new MAT program with the inaugural cohort launching in Summer 2027. The successful candidate will be brought in at the Clinical Assistant Professor level, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Performance seeks qualified applicants who meet the criteria at the Clinical Assistant Professor level with an earned master’s degree in athletic training or a related field. The successful candidate is also expected to be a BOC-certified athletic trainer who is eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee. The successful candidate is expected to assist the Program Director through the CAATE accreditation, lead and direct all aspects of clinical education, establish new clinical education and immersion sites, teach classes, and advise and mentor students.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (based on CAATE standards):

  1. Direct clinical education per the CAATE accreditation requirements
  2. Establish new and maintain all clinical education and immersion sites
  3. Maintain all clinical affiliation agreements
  4. Provide oversight of student clinical progression
  5. Assign students to athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences, clinical site, and student evaluations
  6. Provide regular communication with preceptors
  7. Provide professional development of preceptors
  8. Perform preceptor selection and evaluation
  9. Collaborate with the Program Director on the CAATE accreditation, annual reports, and MAT program assessment

Required Qualifications:

  1. Hold a master’s degree in athletic training or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Hold current national certification and be in good standing with the Board of Certification, Inc.
  3. Be eligible for and maintain Tennessee State licensure.
  4. Demonstrated experience teaching within a CAATE-accredited athletic training program.
  5. Demonstrated experience as a Coordinator of Clinical Education in an Athletic Training program.
  6. Have at least five or more years of clinical experience in athletic training.
  7. Have at least 3 or more years serving in a CAATE-accredited athletic training program.

About the Department of Health & Human Performance

The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) serves approximately 440 majors in two undergraduate programs: a B.S. in Kinesiology with two concentrations and a B.S. in Health and Human Performance with five concentrations. In addition, HHP has approximately 130 graduate students across four programs: Master of Healthcare Administration, Master of Science in Health and Human Performance, Master of Public Health, and Master of Speech-Language Pathology. The department houses state-of-the-art instructional and laboratory spaces in a brand new 115,000 ft2 Health Professions Building that opened in August 2025.
