Position Summary
The Admission Counselor represents Austin Peay State University at college fairs and high school/community college recruitment visits in the designated city and surrounding areas and counsels prospective students and their parents regarding admission requirements, academic programs, financial aid and scholarships, residence halls, student organizations, and activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the achievement of University enrollment and recruitment goals and objectives by representing Austin Peay State University at college fairs and high school/community college recruitment visits and alumni functions;
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation events as indicated per supervisor.
  • Develop and coordinate recruitment plans for target high schools and community colleges in the designated area.
  • Advise supervisory personnel of the progress of ongoing responsibilities by maintaining accurate records of student and high school/community college contacts and preparing reports concerning recruitment and admission activities.
  • Coordinate the efforts of interested alumni to assist in recruitment by attending alumni events and activities in the designated area, creating a network of alumni employed in high school guidance, teaching, and administrative positions, serving as liaison between Austin Peay’s alumni and the Office of Admissions, and assisting the Alumni Office in achieving goals in the designated area.
  • Compile data and reports using Enrollment Information Service, ACT Information Manager, school visit data, and observations in assessing and tracking a territory management plan.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Associate Director of Admissions.
  • Assist with meeting enrollment, recruitment, and student service objectives of the University by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and sensitivity to issues related to the retention and recruitment of a diverse student body are required.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently are required.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Requires the abilities to transport recruitment materials weighing 25 – 50 pounds.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiarity with office applications software, preferably Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with a CRM System.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • The scope of the job includes many evening and weekend responsibilities, primarily during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Live in the greater Huntsville, Alabama area.
Preferred:
  • Recruitment experience at an institution of higher education
