Position Summary
The Assistant Director for the Morgan University Center & Event Services is a key leader in managing daily facility operations, event logistics, and student employee supervision across multiple campus venues, including the Morgan University Center, Clement Auditorium, 416 College Street, and the Red Barn. This position ensures that facilities are safe, functional, and welcoming while providing high-level event planning and coordination support for a wide range of university and community events. As a department leader, this position collaborates in a cross-Divisional and cross-institutional approach to create a vibrant campus atmosphere the inspires and develops student and community engagement.
This role also supports cross-campus operations, including the Govs ID Card Office and Austin Peay Guest Houses, and collaborates closely with campus partners and external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes and excellent service. The Assistant Director contributes to strategic planning, policy development, and assessment efforts to enhance campus engagement, optimize space utilization, and continuously improve operations and achieve Division goals.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
.Facility Management & Operations
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Morgan University Center, Clement Auditorium, 416 College Street, Red Barn, and other assigned venues.
  • Ensure that facilities are safe, properly maintained, functional, and inviting for all users, addressing issues related to maintenance, repair, and upgrades
  • Coordinate the management of facility and equipment inventories, ensuring that necessary repairs, replacements, and updates are identified and implemented.
  • Assist with the management and operations of the Austin Peay Guest Houses, ensuring smooth check-ins, guest services, and coordination of guest house resources.
  • Provide assistance to Govs ID Card operations as needed, offering basic support and services to students, staff, and faculty.
  • Oversee the hiring, supervision and mentorship, training, payroll, and professional development of staff to meet department and division goals.
Event Planning, Support & Coordination
  • Provide event planning services and support for meetings, conferences, special events, and other campus-wide gatherings.
  • Coordinate the logistics for event reservations, including venue setup, staff scheduling, custodial support, security, audio-visual services, and physical plant services.
  • Design and execute event setups that meet client specifications and ensure smooth event flow.
  • Assist with event support for major university events, such as recruitment and orientation programs, commencements, Board of Trustee meetings, summer camps, and events hosted by the Office of Alumni, Engagement, and Philanthropy.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are coordinated for meetings and events, including staffing, equipment, and facilities.
Policy Development & Procedure Management
  • Assist the Director in the development, revision, and implementation of policies, fees, and operating procedures for the Morgan University Center and Event Services.
  • Help ensure that facilities and events adhere to university policies and safety standards.
  • Participate in the surveying and assessment of facilities for potential hazards, damages, and areas for improvement.
Reservation System Support
  • Oversee the online reservation system, managing reservation requests and ensuring accurate scheduling and resource allocation for events and facilities.
  • Add event setups, details, and logistical requirements to the system to ensure smooth coordination and efficient execution.
  • Provide ongoing support for users of the reservation system, troubleshooting issues and assisting with system navigation as needed.
  • Monitor and manage event updates, ensuring that all changes are reflected in the system in a timely manner to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Strategic Planning, Assessment, and Evaluation
  • Collect feedback from event hosts, attendees, and student staff to assess event success, facility usage, and service satisfaction.
  • Analyze data and trends from event reservations, student employee performance, and space utilization to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement assessment tools (e.g., surveys, focus groups) to inform decision-making and enhance the quality of services and operations.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop short- and long-term goals for the Morgan University Center and Event Services in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Participate in annual planning efforts, including departmental goal setting, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in facility management and event services to enhance the student experience and increase campus engagement
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices and current trends in the areas of university center operations and event/program planning.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and work with various staff.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and assess data.
Physical Requirements
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to assist with set-up when necessary.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in event services, facility management, or student affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing events
  • Leadership skills that exemplify collaboration, communication, action and advocacy.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Occasional to frequent evening or weekend hours may be required to support major university events, resolve student employee staffing conflicts, and address other operational needs.
