Position Summary
The Senior Electrician is responsible for performing electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs across the campus. This role ensures that all electrical systems and equipment are functioning safely and efficiently while adhering to all codes and regulations.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install or repair electrical outlets, light fixtures, conduit, wiring, circuit breakers, motors, motor controllers and related equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot low voltage circuits and control systems in electrical, mechanical and electronic hardware.
  • Inspect, repair, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment regularly.
  • Maintain and repair Fire safety system to include responding to all fire alarms
  • Read schematics, diagrams, plans and blueprints in performance of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to recognize electrical hazards and take appropriate actions to ensure safety.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to calculate electrical loads using math and algebra.
  • Ability to create bills of material from design drawings and instructions.
  • Ability to work with high voltage and associated switch gear.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather duties.
Physical Requirements
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs.
  • Heights and working on elevations of 60 feet.
  • Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection)as required.
  • Work of ladders and lifts.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of previous electrical work experience.
  • Journeyman or electrical license preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
