Position Summary
The Career Programming Coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Career Success Operations within the Career Success Center at Austin Peay State University. This role supports career programming, experiential learning, and employer engagement efforts at Austin Peay State University. The Coordinator is responsible for implementing and supporting a variety of initiatives and events that enhance students’ career readiness, while maintaining strong partnerships with campus and community partners. The Career Programming Coordinator will serve as a highly organized, student-centered team member who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is passionate about student success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Career Programming & Event Planning
  • Coordinate logistics for small and large-scale career programming, including career fairs, summer internship programs, student employment, and recruitment events.
  • Collaborate with the career success team, facilities, vendors, and stakeholders to plan, implement, and manage event operations.
  • Support employer and student engagement logistics related to career fairs, experiential learning, and other recruitment/networking events.
  • Plan, design and facilitate career-related programming, presentations, and professional development training for faculty and staff.
  • Assist in developing communications to ensure the success of all career programming.

Experiential Learning & Student Employment
  • Serve as the center’s point of contact for on-campus student employment including federal work-study, graduate assistantships, research roles, and other student jobs.
  • Manage the APSU Student Employment email account and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Financial Aid, and Graduate Studies to support student hiring processes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Educate students and departments on hiring procedures, policies, and use of the Handshake platform.
  • Facilitate and present regularly scheduled orientation workshops for new student employees and supervisors.
  • Assist in the creation and refinement of student employment policies and procedures.
  • Manage job postings and internal accounts for departments on Handshake, including overseeing assessments tied to student employment experiences.
  • Advise students regarding experiential learning opportunities, such as student employment and internships.

Employer Engagement Support
  • Support employer engagement by coordinating event logistics and employer communications related to on-campus recruitment.
  • Serve as a liaison to employers during events and contribute to relationship-building efforts across campus.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Technology Platforms
  • Utilize Handshake and other online platforms to maintain accurate and current records, track student engagement, assist employers with accounts and registrations, and support the day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Contribute to the assessment and reporting of career programming, student engagement, experiential learning, and post-graduate outcomes.

Department and Division
  • Maintain open communications with the Associate Director and Director of the Career Success Center to share information and engage in creative problem-solving to benefit the University community.
  • Represent the Career Success Center at university-wide events, committees, and initiatives, as needed.
  • Stay informed on career development best practices and student employment trends.
  • Participate in related professional organizations for continuing development.
  • Provide general support for marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends for career-related events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with career management platforms (e.g., Handshake).
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible
amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and related experience.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including presentation experience.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and operating a personal computer.

Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business, Communication, Human Resources, or a related field, and at least two (2) years of experience in career services, student advising, student employment, event planning, or a related field in higher education or business.
  • Knowledge of career and student development frameworks, experiential learning, and federal work-study policies.
  • Experience planning and executing events or programs in a fast-paced environment
