Position Summary | Reporting to the Student Success Director, the Student Success Professional serves as a senior academic advising leader, playing a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative student success initiatives within the college. This position provides support and assistance to the Student Success Director by coordinating efforts across internal and external stakeholders, representing the Director in their absence, and addressing complex student challenges that require advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills. Working within a dynamic and collaborative environment, the Student Success Professional engages with staff at various levels, student employees, interns, and graduate assistants. Their core responsibilities include guiding freshman, sophomore, and transfer students in navigating academic and career pathways, managing proactive advising systems to support students in transition, and aligning with the college’s strategic priorities to enhance retention, progression, and persistence. By spearheading key activities and fostering an environment of continuous improvement, the Student Success Professional ensures that student success remains a central focus of the college’s mission Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. Primary Duties and Responsibilities | - Leadership and Team Coordination: Collaborate with the Student Success Director to coordinate and implement college-based student success initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals. Supervise and mentor student employees, interns, and graduate assistants, providing guidance to enhance their professional development and contributions to the team. Represent the Student Success Director in meetings and initiatives, serving as a liaison with college leadership and external partners as needed.
- Student Success Initiatives: Coordinate programs and initiatives that promote student retention, academic progression, and persistence to graduation. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to design innovative solutions addressing barriers to student success, particularly for freshman, sophomore, and transfer student populations. Utilize data-driven approaches to enhance academic advising strategies and identify at-risk students for targeted interventions.
- Advising and Student Support: Provide advanced-level academic advising to students facing complex situations, including at-risk students, those considering a major change, and transfer students with diverse credit sources, ensuring alignment with their academic and career goals as well as timely graduation. Coordinate proactive outreach efforts to engage students in transition and connect them with resources for academic success.Serve as an escalation point for resolving student challenges and navigating sensitive or complex issues, including academic appeals, accommodations, and referrals to campus resources.
- Strategic Planning and Assessment: Partner with the Student Success Director to develop and implement strategic plans for student success initiatives in alignment with institutional objectives. Regularly participate in assessing the effectiveness of advising practices and student support programs through review of student data and assessment results. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in services and make recommendations to enhance the overall student experience.
- Campus and Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships withfaculty, staff, and external partners to support holistic student development. Participate incampus committees, task forces, and working groups. Represent the college in campus-wide events, workshops, and community engagement initiatives.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Assist in the management of technology and other resources for academic advising and student success initiatives. Collaborate with theDirector to prepare reports, presentations, and communications related to advising and student success. Stay current on best practices, policies, and regulations in academic advising and higher education to ensure compliance and innovation.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with various populations, the University community, students, family members, and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information; maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SungardHE Banner, EAB Navigate).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong planning, collaboration and time-management skills.
- Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), EAB Navigate, and SungardHE Banner.
- Knowledge of APSU undergraduate degree requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, both verbally and in writing."

Physical Requirements | - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Required Minimum Qualifications | - Master’s Degree or higher in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related fields.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in higher education advising or student success initiatives experience.
