Position Summary
The Military-Affiliated Accounting Specialist is responsible to assist in the processing of VA Funding, Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) and any other military-affiliated third-party contracts; including invoicing, collection & reconciliation of accounts.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process data related to the billing and collection of VA Funding, FTA responsibilities and other third-party contracts.
  • Enter charges and credits on students’ accounts on the Banner system;
  • Respond to inquiries from co-workers within the MVA Division, other APSU departments, and federal agencies regarding students’ accounts, holds, and balances.
  • Process invoices in a timely manner for the contracts that are the responsibility of this position.
  • Invoice and balance third-party contracts of VA Funding (Post 911 & VA VR&E), FTA, TN Strong, APSU Army ROTC, and any military-affiliated contracts that open for our division in the future.
  • Reconcile accounts regularly.
  • Serve as a backup for various supervisory duties during the absence of the supervisor.
  • Meet and provide information to federal, state, and internal auditors as requested.
  • Serve on campus committees as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned & needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated
  • software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.).
  • Familiarization with Oracle Systems and Ellucian Banner.
  • Ability to manage projects skillfully.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts multiple times throughout the year.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • A Minimum of an Associate degree
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in Finance/Accounting or equivalency in higher education experience (Graduate Assistant and/or student worker experience).
  • Advanced knowledge of the use of Excel.
