Position Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic (Specialized Equipment – Dining Services) operates under the direct supervision of the Director of Housing Services and provides maintenance and repair to dining services equipment, as well as basic facility maintenance.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Trouble-shoot and repair all Dining Services-related mechanical and electrical
  • equipment including fryers, steamers, griddles, hot boxes, dishwashers,
  • refrigerators, coolers, freezers, ice machines, signage, etc.
  • Perform regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections.
  • Serve as campus point-of-contact for all contractor work performed by outside
  • contractors on Dining Services equipment.
  • Install and maintain new equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Support and interact with contracted food management company.
  • Order new equipment and parts for equipment repairs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations, HVAC and mechanical repairs.
  • Customer Service, computer literate, and knowledge of commercial refrigeration test instruments.
  • Strong planning, collaboration and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
Physical Requirements
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. carefully and safely, if needed.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable work experience with electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical systems and controls.
  • EPA certified

Preferred Qualifications
Vocational or Technical degree from accredited school in HVAC and Refrigeration
Experience with R290 equipment.
