Position Summary
The Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Governance is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operations of a comprehensive compliance and rules education program for 17 sports to ensure adherence to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations. The position will serve as the department’s liaison for multiple offices on campus including, but not limited to: Admissions and Financial Aid. Additionally, this position will serve as the sport administrator for select varsity programs. Other Administrative duties and Committee assignments to be determined by the Vice President for Athletics.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee all day-to-day compliance activities to ensure the department is adhering to all rules and regulations of the institution, conference(s) and the NCAA.
  • Educate athletic department staff, coaches, student-athletes, university liaisons and various alumni and external constituents/entities regarding NCAA rules and legislation. Additionally, support department and university staff in necessary NCAA rules interpretations.
  • Oversee, monitor and forecast all athletic scholarship awards and allocations in collaboration with each varsity program for the academic year and summer sessions.
  • Coordinates collaborative efforts, completion and submission of various University, Conference and NCAA annual reports and data collection including, but not limited to APR, GSR and federal
  • graduation reports.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the office of Enrollment Management to coordinate and assist coaches with the comprehensive recruitment, admissions and financial aid processes of all student-athletes.
  • Department liaison to university offices such as admissions, Financial Aid, and Registrar.
  • Coordinate revisions and updates to the department of athletics policies and procedures manual as needed.
  • Serve as Manager of NCAA Compliance Software, departmental compliance software, and NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.
  • Work closely with faculty representative in certification of eligibility and rules compliance issues.
  • Administer and oversee recruiting activities, Athletics Grants-in-Aid programs, eligibility certification for practice and competition, financial aid, NCAA squad lists, National Letters of Intent and reporting of same.
  • Develop and produce educational materials, such as but not limited to departmental and student-athlete compliance handbooks, and annual NCAA rules brochure for alumni/booster/and the general public.
  • Develop compliance records collection, monitor, conduct interviews and report violations.
  • Compile, review and submit requests for eligibility waivers and other requests for waivers and appeals related to NCAA rules.
  • Attend annual NCAA Compliance seminar and provide continuous updates for compliance with rules and procedures.
  • Serve as a member of the Athletics Department Senior Staff.
  • Serve as a sport administrator for select varsity programs.
  • Perform other duties as directed or dictated by the Vice President for Athletics. Duties may be changed and/or be added at any time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, NCAA Compliance Software, NCAA internet programs, etc.) and Ellucian Banner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal
  • communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs. Accurately prepare records and reports.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate office functions and details essential to the efficient operation of the Athletic Department.
  • Ability to work evenings during athletic events.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or Law degree preferred.
  • Proven, progressive experience in all aspects of NCAA compliance at the campus and/or conference level, with previous experience at the Division I level preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and continued mastery of, the everchanging world of NCAA governance and legislative matters. The ability to assist with/coordinate the enhancement of systems and infrastructure relative to the effective implementation of the NCAA House Settlement model is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement NCAA rules education, monitoring and compliance procedures, strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.


  • Preference is for candidates with direct experience in NCAA compliance related software and ARMS (or related software).
