Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Recruitment and Orientation provides leadership and direction in implementing and integrating systems and processes which streamline workflows, support effective and responsive communication with prospective families, and elevate the office’s ability to anticipate the work ahead in upcoming cycles. The Assistant Director applies a strong understanding of Austin Peay State University, New Student Orientation, recruitment of a diverse student body, and the competitive landscape to their work. The Assistant Director works in collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Orientation, leading the Admissions team and university community to realize that vision through the design and implementation of tactical action plans and multi-year strategy.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze current and historical enrollment trends in assigned territory to develop a strategy that serves the University’s enrollment goals;
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Recruitment and Orientation and Assistant Provost for Enrollment Management to improve admissions processes, improve recruitment initiatives, and streamline the orientation process for new students;
  • Manage, train, develop, and support a team of admissions counselors;
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with both internal and external partners;
  • Evaluate ROI on travel and recruiting expenses;
  • May be responsible for recruiting students in a small territory; provide full-cycle support and service to prospective students, from the inquiry stage through enrollment;.
  • Provide an excellent customer service and maintain a student-centered attitude in every aspect of the role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Verbal and written communication skills;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of admissions and University policies.
  • Administrative computer software and hardware knowledge;
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public;
  • Ability to work autonomously, be proactive, take initiative, and make ethical decisions.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Admissions work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
