| Position Summary | The Police Officer works under general supervision of a shift or operations supervisor and the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Campus Police. The Police Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure campus environment; and the enforcement of University policies, state and local laws.
The selected applicant will initially be hired as a Security Guard 2 if all Police Officer Standard and Training pre-employment requirements are not met at the time of employment.
The selected applicant will be hired as a Police Officer 1 if all Police Officer Standard and Training pre-employment requirements are met at the time of employment.
Academy graduation and subsequent certification is a condition for continued employment. The probationary period for new officers is 6 months. Guards/Officers sign a contract addendum agreeing to repay all associated, initial training costs if they resign within two years of the academy graduation date.

| Primary Duties and Responsibilities | - Crime prevention, campus patrol, radio communications, parking and traffic enforcement, criminal investigations and follow-up, and report writing.
- Provide protection for University persons, property, and guests.
- Maintain surveillance of all areas within department jurisdiction.
- Identify and report hazards to safety and security of the campus.
- Interact with other law enforcement agencies when appropriate.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to operate a vehicle.

- Ability to perform security and police duties on bicycle patrol.

- Ability to provide protection and apply law enforcement procedures in a safe and proper manner.
- Ability to ascertain facts through personal contact, observation, and examination of records.
- Ability to pass annual weapon qualification to meet P.O.S.T. certification.
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively, especially with students and visitors to the campus.

| Physical Requirements | - Ability to pursue suspects/suspicious individuals on foot, through University buildings, grounds and make arrests as needed.
- Ability to run, jump, and physically restrain an individual as needed to make arrest.

| Required Minimum Qualifications | - Required to be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have no criminal convictions.
- Must pass a psychological examination.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the University.
- Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician at the candidate’s own expense.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have a telephone for emergency recall by department.
- Essential employee will be required to report to work during emergency or disaster situations.
