Position Summary
Position will be responsible to assist the Tennessee Small Business Development Center in implementing its mission; which is to provide high quality consulting and training solutions to start, grow, and sustain the client’s business; Vision- to be the comprehensive source to deliver the most innovative client-focused business solutions.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and coordinate the Center’s activities with APSU’s College of Business to promote and strengthen community connections in accordance with APSU’s Collège of Business Strategic plan.
  • Provide business marketing and operational consulting to clients; present workshop content to classes held in person, via Zoom and in On-Demand formats.
  • Assist in coordinating activities at the Center in conjunction with the Director and other TSBC personnel to include budgeting, training, technical research, and counseling to current and prospective small business owners.
  • Assist in the development of specialized programs for women business owners, minorities, veterans, international trade and rural economic development.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to SBDC
  • Represent the Center at events within our seven county service area promoting small business and activities of our strategic partners.
  • Assist in managing workshops and events; collaborate with clients to determine their needs and their progress; daily client management, record keeping, client outreach, follow-up tracking survey results and scheduling.
  • Obtain/maintain specialized certifications in various topics such as digital certifications in various topics.
  • Assist the Lead Center in coordinating marketing activities for the Center’s services to a seven county service area including social media; serve as liaison to the hosts institutions marketing department for printed materials as well as press releases.
  • Assist with monitoring budget expenditures, balance monthly financial reports, compile and maintain records for annual and revised budgets,
  • Assist in the successful implementation of an innovative model for internships and assist in managing interns.
  • Promote, support, and participate in client recruitment efforts.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned,
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general business management;
  • Knowledge of public speaking techniques;
  • Good writing and goal setting skills;
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with divers constituencies;
  • Passion to help others succeed.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related professional experience in project management, grant management, marketing; business scenario analysis and planning; communications, or related areas.
  • Experience in coaching, training, and motivating others.
