Position Summary
The Network Engineer functions under the general guidance and supervision of the Director of Infrastructure. The incumbent assists the Director in the installation, operation and maintenance of the campus network software, both client and server. The incumbent also assists in the planning, configuration and maintenance of the campus network electronics and logical network infrastructure.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
-Evaluate, install, configure and maintain Layer 2 network switches.
-Evaluate, install, configure and maintain Layer 3 network switches and routers.
-Configure and support campus wireless network controllers.
-Configure and support campus wireless access points.
-Configure and support ClearPass network access control technology.
-Configure and support DHCP, Airwave, Solarwinds and other network management systems.
-Configure and support campus Palo Alto firewalls and other security systems.
-Assist users in resolving problems associated with network software and network applications.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-Knowledge of layer 1 cabling technologies.
-Knowledge of layer 2 switching technologies.
-Knowledge of layer 3 routing technologies.
-Knowledge of the campus computer network hardware.
-Knowledge of campus network software, both client and server.
-Knowledge of network concepts and protocols.
-Knowledge of the Internet and Internet concepts and applications.
-Knowledge of all Windows operating systems.
-Knowledge of networking on various client platforms to include Apple, Unix and Windows.
-Ability to employ exceptionally strong troubleshooting skills towards efficient and timely resolution of all campus network problems.
-Ability to effectively manage computer resources during equipment failure.
-Ability to install, test and maintain network software required in the university network environment.
-Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
-Ability to follow and adhere to established procedures.
Physical Requirements
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50
pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Required Minimum Qualifications
-A Bachelor’s degree in the Computer Science field.
