Position Summary
The position will function under the general guidance and supervision of the Technical Services Director. This position will be required to assist in project planning and coordination of new buildings, renovations, and modifications to classrooms and collaborative spaces on campus and create innovative spaces to provide the highest quality instructional technology environment, in addition to researching, selecting, installing, maintaining, and training users on audio/visual equipment for the University.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research new and developing technologies for teaching and learning.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop innovative ways to present learning in the classroom.
  • Provide maintenance, support, and repair on all new and existing classroom technology. This includes, but is not limited to, projectors, speakers, computers, control modules, audio/video switchers, document cameras, video cameras, interactive touch panels, digital signage, and teaching podiums.
  • Design, install, and implement new classroom technology and perform upgrades on systems including, but not limited to, classroom computers, projectors, speakers, control modules, switchers, document cameras, electronic whiteboards, and related wiring infrastructure and users on audio/visual equipment.
  • Install and support operating systems and specialized software packages on classroom computers.
  • ·Assist in the planning and implementing of classroom technology in new buildings and renovation projects.
  • Systems administration of AV control systems and programming of control modules.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of classroom technology and related equipment in the Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) System.
  • Create training materials, documentation, classroom project plans, and budget analysis.
  • Provide classroom technology consultation and/or training services.
  • Provide testing and evaluation on new, emerging technologies within the field of classroom computing
  • Manage all escalated tickets, audiovisual ticket
  • Work with external vendors and third-party contractors on university design and construction projects.
  • Supervise student workers
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair audio/visual equipment, including associated peripherals.
  • Knowledge of basic rules of high voltage and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to read diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals for repair diagnostic information.
  • Ability to think clearly in designing and implementing troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to compare and contrast the functionality of similar devices and decide which better suits the needs of the University.
  • Experience installing commercial audio/visual equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools including, but not limited to, electronic power drills, power screwdrivers, jigsaws, ohms meters, wire strippers, and crimpers
  • Ability to install, operate, support, and maintain Windows and Macintosh operating systems and software packages.
  • Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.
  • Ability to adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to read and follow wiring diagrams and building schematics with accuracy.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move freely around campus, including the use of stairs.
  • Dexterity as related to keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment.
  • Normal visual acuity.
  • Working in front of a computer monitor for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Operation of battery and small gas-powered vehicles.
  • Lift equipment to 75 lbs.
  • Use of ladders up to 14’.
  • Navigation of catwalk and ceilings
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree graduate or a minimum of 60 (sixty) hours of college credit.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in troubleshooting audio/visual and computer equipment, including sound systems, projection and display systems, audio/visual programming, microcomputers, peripherals, and communications support equipment.
  • Experience installing commercial audio/visual equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools including, but not limited to, electronic power drills, power screwdrivers, jigsaws, ohms meters, wire strippers, and crimpers
  • A background and credit history check will be required of the successful applicant.
