Position Summary | The Library Assistant 1 – Weekend Shift works under the supervision of the unit’s Team Lead and is responsible for all work related to the general operation of the Access Services Desk. The work week for the position is Friday (9:30am-6pm), Saturday (8:30am-5pm), and Sunday (12:30pm-9:00pm), when classes are in session. The position requires occasional varying work schedules when classes are not scheduled and as needed. The Library Assistant 1 – Morning Shift works under the supervision of the unit’s Team Lead and is responsible for all work related to the general operation of the Access Services Desk. The work week for the position is Monday through Friday, 6:30am-11am. The position requires occasional varying work schedules when classes are not scheduled and as needed. |
Primary Duties and Responsibilities | - Open and closes the building as necessary.
- Staff the Access Services desk during scheduled shifts, answering incoming phone calls, making referrals, or taking messages as appropriate.
- Perform general circulation duties such as checking library materials in and out and verifying user status.
- Develop and maintain familiarity with library services and resources, and provide library users with basic reference services and technology assistance.
- Communicate regularly with the unit Team Lead to keep up-to-date on university and library issues. Inform the Team Lead and Access Services Librarian about issues or problems that arise during weekend and evening hours.
- Work collaboratively with other unit staff members and student assistants to accomplish unit projects and goals.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor printer repairs, including supplying paper and toner as needed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements | - Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, to bend, stoop, reach, push and lift boxes.

Required Minimum Qualifications | - High school graduate or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge using MS Office Suite or similar
