Position Summary | The College of Business Student Success Professional is under the supervision of the College of Business Student Success Coordinator. Primary responsibilities include being a lead academic advisor and leading the college’s undergraduate recruitment and retention efforts. The Student Success Professional will also support university wide retention initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities | - Be a proactive and constructive participant within the College of Business Student Success team
- With the college’s Student Success Coordinator, provide guidance and support to the college’s Academic Advisors.
- Advise a caseload of business students to support their success at APSU.
- Coordinate the college’s student recruitment and retention efforts, including planning for Preview Days and develop new college initiatives to improve recruitment, retention, and persistence rates.
- Provide proactive advising using techniques such as motivational interviewing and appreciative advising framework.
- Support student retention by working with advisees in academic difficulty and recommending appropriate actions and resources.
- Help students understand university and degree requirements, interpret a degree evaluation, and develop a responsible approach to academic planning.
- Be knowledgeable of all business programs at the university; maintain awareness of and integrate revisions in departmental requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | - Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and SungardHE Banner.
- Knowledge of university and degree requirements.
- Ability to work with diverse populations, to establish rapport with university students, and to interact with family members.
- Ability to maintain accurate files and records of student contacts, both electronically and on paper.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as complete tasks individually.
- Ability to apply student development and career development theories.
- Commitment to keeping abreast of current advisement literature and practices.
- Knowledgeable of FERPA.

Physical Requirements | - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications | - Master’s Degree or higher in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related fields.
- Minimum of one year professional full-time experience with academic advising at a post-secondary institution.
- A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook & Zoom
