Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The Career Advising Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and support to students who are exploring career options, preparing for the job search process, and seeking experiential learning opportunities. This position will assist with coordination of major events and assessment of services as needed. This position will also oversee internal marketing efforts (social media, print materials, etc.), student communications, and website maintenance for the department.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coach students and graduates through all aspects of the employment hiring process – including resume and cover letter building, mock interviews, and job search strategies.
  • Provide career exploration to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni – including career assessment and action planning.
  • Coordinate and plan events including career fairs, networking engagements, and departmental collaborations.
  • Create and facilitate career readiness workshops and classroom presentations that are relevant and align with current employment trends.
  • Maintain and update department social media, print and digital resources, and website.
  • Navigate and instruct students on how to use Jobs4Govs and other career platforms to assist with their career goals.
  • Execute semester and yearly goals and assist with planning, assessment and reporting of outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of career management platforms
  • Understanding of career readiness skills that support student development.
  • Ability to create, conduct, and report on goals and assessments.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to support other team members
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Education, Social Sciences, or related field
  • Minimum of one year full-time experience in academic or career advising OR willingness to pursue a career development certification

Preferred Requirements
· Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Higher Education, Counseling or related field
· Two or more years experience in academic or career advising
· Marketing or communications experience
